No. 551
The Silver Terminalia tree is a medium sized deciduous tree that grows
in sandy soils along seep lines.
The leaves are silver-grey, covered with silvery hairs, which give the tree
its name.
Diarrhoea and colic were cured by African tribes
by using a decoction of the roots. This decoction is very bitter. Tswana potters
use the leaves to glaze their pots.
Nerifolin, a glucoside, which effects the pulse rate, has been isolated from
parts of the silver Terminalia.
The yellow-wood is fine grained and hard. The
wood has been used to make furniture and fence posts which, because they are
termite resistant, last for years.
