This semi-deciduous tree normally grows
up to 20 metres tall. The one in this picture is thought to be the
tallest in the world and must be nearly 30 metres tall.
The Leadwood tree is found from Kwazulu
Natal in the south to Tanzania in the north.
The wood is very hard and termite resistant.
It was once used for railway sleepers and is now prized as a furniture
wood. When burnt on a barbecue it burns slowly with a very hot flame.
