The plum coloured starling
is distributed from sub Sahara to the northern parts of South Africa.
The starling is a fairly common intra-African migrant.
Likes woodland, bushveld and riverine forest. Gregarious, the starling
is found in small flocks when not breeding. Feeds mainly on fruits
and insects.
Breeds in summer in the northern parts
of South Africa, normally in a hole in a tree. The nest is lined
with green leaves on a bed of grass.
