Gymnogene (Polyboroides typus)
The Gymnogene is a fairly large bird
found from south of the Sahara to the Cape of good hope.
The Gymnogene likes forest areas with
large trees. The tarsal joint bends forwards, sideways and backwards
to enable it to reach into holes to rob nests of their young. The
Gymnogene's small head also enables it to reach into small crevices
for it prey.
The Gymnogene feeds mainly on reptiles,
amphibians, birds and nestlings.
