The Mountain Karee tree is an evergreen
tree that grows six to eight metres tall, often multi stemmed.
Found mainly in the north western parts
of South Africa and as far north as Malawi.
The Mountain Karee tree is browsed
by Giraffe, Kudu,
Impala, Steenbok
and Eland. During drought years
the Mountain Karee tree is one of the few trees that remain evergreen.
Barbets, Mousebirds, Bulbuls,
Louries, Guineafowl,
Francolin and other fruit eating birds
feed off the flattened yellowish-brown fruit.
The wood from this tree is good for
making furniture, taking on a reddish-brown colour as it ages.
