The Large-fruited Bushwillow is named
for its large four-winged fruit. This tree will grow to ten metres.
The bark is smooth and greyish white in colour.
The fruit is eaten by monkeys,
and baboons.
The leaves are browsed by Kudu,
Eland,
Impala, Giraffe,
Bushbuck,
Klipspringer,
steenbok, and Elephants.
The wood is prized for use in braais (barbecue) as it is hard and
burns leaving good coals. The wood is yellow and not eaten by termites.
It is used as a good all purpose timber.
The roots are used to weave fish traps and baskets.
Hornbills eat the seeds
from fruit that has fallen.
An embrocation made of crushed leaves and oil is used to ease backache.
Eye drops are made from crushed leaves and water. A haemorrhoid
remedy is made from extract of crushed roots, fat and other ingredients,
