Redcreasted Korhaan (Eupodotis ruficrista)
The Redcreasted Korhaan is named for the red crest shown only during
courtship display to the female. The male puffs out his neck and
throat plumage to show the red crest.
A fairly large bird about the size of a chicken.
A common resident of savanna, bushveld and arid grassland. Eggs
are laid on the ground incubated for three weeks by the female.
Feeds on Seeds, fruit and arthropods.
The Redcreasted Korhaan is a very shy bird and no often seen at
close quarters.
