Southern Yellowbilled Hornbill (Tocus
leucomelas)
This hornbill is a medium sized bird
found in woodland bushveld, savanna and thornveld.
When it calls it points its bill downward and has its wings up.
Feeds on Insects, rodents fruit and seeds.
Nests in a hole in a tree lined with
dry grass and leaves. The female incubates the eggs and only leaves
the nest three weeks after the first egg hatches. The nestlings
reseal the entrance unaided.
