Giant Kingfisher (Megaceryle maxima)
The Giant Kingfisher is the largest South African Kingfisher. Uncommon,
it inhabits wooded streams, lakes, rivers and the seashore. Usually
solitary, it perches in a low branch over water. It sometimes hovers
while feeding. Feeds on fish, frogs and crabs.
Nests in a long tunnel in river banks, usually near the top of the
bank.
